CEL question with test pipe
hello, some questions on the test pipe and CEL
why sometimes we changed the legal cat to a test pipe and the CEL will on?
but sometimes the CEL never on?
my car is a del sol, and i believe it's OBD2... there is no O2 sensor on the cat, how does the ECU know i changed to the test pipe and the CEL on? how does the ECU monitor the pipe?
why install a test pipe with a bung then the CEL will NOT on?
but install a test pipe wiith no bung and the CEL WILL on?

Re: CEL question with test pipe (SOL-R)
I don't think that the Sols ever came in OBDII (96 or newer), but with an OBDI car, there will be no CEL from a test pipe, as there is no secondary 02 sensor. With the OBDII cars there is a secondary 02 sensor that checks the "health" of the catalytic converter. That's why you get a CEL with a test pipe on an OBDII car and not an OBDI car.

Re: CEL question with test pipe (Ricey McRicerton)
but my car has the JDM B18C-R motor, and people said it is OBD2...
so the point is that if my cat dun have O2 sensor then there is nothing to worry about ?

96-97 del sols have 96-00 civic motors, whether it be an s, si, or vtec del sol. 96-00 civic motors are all OBDII.
Get a high flowing catalytic converter, you'd be suprised most of them flow a lot better than you think, and you get to retain all your stock sensors and stay street legal. Not to mention better for the environment.
Now go get your high-flo cat and hug a tree!

i got a 99 b16b and it does not look for a 2nd o2 i think that the jdm motors do not have 2nd o2's but i could be wrong
