Default CEL: Please help with diagnosis. 98 Civic LX CEL codes enclosed!

Please help me to diagnose my CEL problem on a D16Y7:

1. P1298: Manufacturer control fuel air metering

2. P0135: O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction
Bank 1 Sensor 1

3. P0141: O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction
Bank 1 Sensor 2

Does anyone know what my problem is? Obviously I thought my problem is the O2 sensors, But I find it unusual that both O2 sensors would fail at the exact same time. I hope that this is not my problem since the O2 sensors are expensive. Could the "Manufacturer control fuel air metering" be causing the problem with the O2 sensors? If so what is the part and where is it located so I can replace it? Is it one O2 sensor and not both O2 sensors that are bad(Before Catalyst or After Catalyst O2 sensor)? All the info I have is included in this post. Honda Guru's please help me, Thanks.

1298 for honda:electrical load detector circuit high voltage.
as for the other bank 1 sensor 1 is located on top of you exhaust manifold before the cat. and bank 1 sensor 2 is located after you cat.

So is the 1298 related to the O2 sensor CEL?

I had that code when my o2 sensors went out (both of them) and it cleared itself out when they were replaced. When I bought the car, the previous owner (most likely their mechanic did it) had pulled the cel bulb, so I didn't know I had any problems.

What are you bumping for? Change your o2 sensors and reset the ecu. Check to see if one or both of the o2 sensors are shorting out against something. The electrical load detector circuit high voltage code indicates a short.

Well, I'm not quite sure yet but I think all of my problems may be my alternator. All of a sudden on my way to work the speedometer, trip odometer and mileage odometer just stopped working too. On my way home tonight all the lights started dimming to the point of almost going out and the car would stall at stop lights. I went down to where I left it and the car started but using the multimeter indicated only 12v while running. It dropped down to 10v pretty quickly so I shut it off. I think the battery is still good but the alternator is dead. I will check further in the morning.

Hold your horses. With all those problems that you just descibed, I just figured out what your problem is.

A leg of the engine wiring harness runs to the alternator, knock sensor and o2 sensor. It runs between the intake manifold and the manifold bracket. On 96-00 civics, this portion of the wiring harness rubs against the bracket and eventually shorts out causing everything you descibed.

There is even a Honda service bulletin out that explains the problem and the fix for Honda mechanics. I actually had this done to my sons car and cost me about 100 bucks.

Here is the service bulletin http://www.hondalac.com/servic...e.pdf I had to take mine in because I could barely get my big mitts on that part of the harness.

I'm sure you also have a blown fuse #15. replace the fuse, get the harness off of the intake mani bracket (zip tie it to something so its not touching the bracket of insulate it somehow), jump your car and drive it home or a mechanic.

Thanks for the info, I will be sure to check that also. I have the alternator already out of the car and it definitely tested bad on the test bench at our local parts store. Who knows it could be a combination of both things. I really appreciate your help for sure. I will be sure to update you...And thank you for the bulletin link.

Well here is the results, The alternator was definitely bad. I bought a lifetime warranty replacement for $109.00 and put it in. I did check and perform that service bulletin. There was no damage to the harness or wires, But I put some wire loom on it anyway to prevent any problems in the future. The speed sensor fuse(#15) was definitely shot and replaced. I think it was the alternator dieing a slow death that blew out the fuse and was giving me all the engine codes because they are all gone. Everything works as it should. I appreciate all the help.
