The CEL that has haunted me for the past 2 years!!
I've been running with a CEL code 54 (crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor) for the past 2 years. It just refuses to go away. I had my mechanic do a diagnostic test on the sensor, and it came back ok.
That's why I'm totally stumped on what is causing the CEL to come on. Does anyone have experience with CEL code 54? What did you do to correct the problem?

I bought a brand new CKF sensor from the dealer awhile back. Looking in the Helms manual, the install looks to be a major pain in the *** so I never got around to it. I also don't have a crankshaft pulley wrench to even get to the sensor.
I'm still confused why this sensor could even go bad in the first place. It hasn't been touched with ever. Like I said, my mechanic did a diagnostic test, and the sensor came back OK. So what else could be causing code 54?

It may be a pain in the ***, but if you want that **** light off, then just buck up and do it. The crank pulley bolt will come off, I promise. It's not too bad, and there is plenty of help in the archives.
