Default CEL Codes Help

I have a 97' hatch automatic, the car drives for a short period of time, and then it acts like it's just thrown into neutral and wont move what so ever (just revs) and you get stranded. After letting the car sit awhile it's then drivable again, and does this over and over. Now when it's turned on in the driveway, it idles up and down really bad.

I get 7 long blinks, and D4 flashes the entire time.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the clutch is owned...but I don't know that much about automatic transmissions .

haha, yeah, I just thought it was odd the car is perfectly drivable for a short period of time like that. I had a small bit of hope that maybe it's some kind of sensor somewhere. It's been sitting in the driveway for a few weeks, I went out there just to run it for awhile and like I said it's bouncing up and down like crazy, unless that's just something the CEL will do, I don't know. Car seems like a lost cause at the moment.

*edit* come to think of it, I guess because the tranny is so bad off the car is trying to stall out just sitting there

I had a grand am in high school that did that. Turned out to be the torque converter.
