Default CEL 22 what do I fix, replace?

Hi,

Im new here and i drive a Honda civic with a swapped gsr. I just recently got a CEL code #22 thrown and I can't find the solution on fixing it. I checked the wire's & they seem fine. I've also replaced the Oil Pressure Switch with a brand new one from Honda and that didn't help. I already checked the oil and its reading fine. Do I have to buy a whole new Vtec solenoid? I was also told to check the oil pressure how do i do that?

Try cleaning the filter inside the solenoid. It may be clogged.

if the guy who swapped that motor had to wire the vtec straight to the ecu, you might want to double check to make sure that wire did not come loose. its the wire that goes to D6

no only "long long short short" which would be cel 22, does this problem usually throw other codes with it? any other solutions to this problem will be great and I'll be trying them out tomorrow. I think this is also my last post of the day since im new and i think im only allowed to post 5 posts per day. Thank you for your feedback RonJ@HT and 95sloweg

I had this problem after i swapped my in my gsr. I ran a straight wire to the ecu and it worked. If it doesn't pop vtak then, try switching solenoids.

yeah vtakk yo! doesnt engage at all once the code is thrown. I'm going to pull the solenoid and clean it but what exactly kind of cleaning supply do I use to clean it?

ok I cleaned the solenoid (even though it looked clean) and I checked the wiring again and everything seems to be fine. But its still throwing code 22 at 1st it will only throw it when I hit vtec now its on right at start up.

Things I've done:
Replaced Oil Pressure Switch
Checked Wiring
Cleaned Solenoid
Checked Oil Level

now what to do?

Are you checking the VTEC wiring as instructed in the service manual?

I PM'd you. You need to check the VTEC wires with a multimeter. You'll miss many electrical problems if you limit yourself to visual inspections.

Well you definetely need to check the wiring from the plugs to the ecu with a multimeter that is the first step. But there is also another situation which every one seems to have missed is it possible your not getting enough pressure there i would think you may want to change your oil just to be safe. Here is a really good write up on vtec related problem that details some troubleshooting methods. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-prelude-4/official-%22why-vtec-doesnt-engage%22-thread-830163/

the oil is good i changed it maybe like a month ago and I only drive this car maybe 3times aweek so it should still be good. I changed the entire solenoid today (borrowed from a friends gsr) and im still getting the code. Im going to recheck the wiring again to be sure. thanks for sending that info Ron@HT

Joelmatt89 thats alot of helpful information im forsure going to read up on that. I'll get back to you guys and see what goes on.

I went ahead and checked the wires again with a multimeter since I was told to. It turns out that my blue/black wire for the pressure switch wasn't working properly. I changed the connector and wire and plugged it up. Now it works flawlessly thank you for your help and input everyone.
