Default Catch can and PCV questions

just curious if someone can explain this whole deal, i know the purpose of the catch can is to keep oil out of the intake manifold right? how does the stock PCV system work and how does a catch can seperate the oil from air? im running a b16a all motor would a catch can be a good idea, should i buy one or try to make one?
please dont tell me to do a search
any help would be appreciated
