Is the catalytic converter really needed?
Catalytic Converter on my 93' sol.
Recently the piping on the converter broke off so i had it removed and replaced with a straight pipe. Will this in any way affect me or do i need it back on?

Re: Is it really needed?
it wont hurt the engine or any other components but like 98civdx said if your state requires it or has emission testing then yes. here in NY state we have a visual and the check to see if a CEL is present. but if you know people they will only check safety and not "notice" the cat.

honestly a honda with a gutted or no cat at all will still emit emissions cleaner than most v8s will and thats been proven. But if u have a emissions test in your state the CEL will automaticaly fail you. i run a jaclson racing header on my EP3 and if i reset the CEL before the inspection i'll pass w no problem and thats in Texas.

Re: Is the catalytic converter really needed?
its needed just for emissions.
but if you can somehow get an inspection sticker through connections, more power to you.
the only flaws of a straight pipe are that it pollutes the environment, smells bad, and is loud as fawk
but me personally, a magnaflow hi flow cat is my choice
