Default Carpet or Truck Bed Liner?

So as of now, my interior is gutted and I was in the midst of looking for a new (or old, in good condition) carpet and sound deadener.

Decent sound deadener ran me about $140, and a new carpet was close to that as well, since I couldn't find used carpet in a condition I was pleased with. I was looking at a couple forums and someone was considering using rhino liner in place of carpet. I considered it, and concluded that 1) it's way more rugged than carpet, 2) it'll last longer and be able to take more of a beating than carpet, 3) it's lighter than carpet, 4) soo much easier to clean, especially since taking the seats out and hosing it down could be an option, 5) read that rhino liner works GREAT as a sound deadener.

So it's basically 2 (or more) birds with one stone, and a lot cheaper. The only problem that I friend of mine brought up, was the smell. Apparently rhino liner smells reaallyyy bad, and he told me that it could take up to a month with my windows down and sunroof off for the smell to die away. Then I starting wondering, will the liner heat up and start to smell again in intense heat or the summer? Turns out it does. A solution to that could be using a lighter color or something other than black. I didn't WANT to, but if it comes down to it I might, that would be using a red rhino liner instead to prevent smell in the heat.

Anyway, what are your guys thoughts about this? Any tips or comments, criticism is more than welcome and please don't just vote, gimme a reason

fankss

Sorry I don't have answers, but I'm interested in this idea. How does rhino liner work, is it spray on or something? And it comes in all different colors?

Yeah, it's spray on and I've only seen rhino liner in red and black. Other bed liners could come in more colors though

I've used plenty of spray paints and things of that sort in my car and the smell never comes back when it's hot (and believe me, it gets hot). I vote you go for it, it sounds like a good idea, I may try it in my trunk.

Thanks Griff, and if I do, I'll be sure to include it in my build or write a separate diy on it

I did the inside of my Jeep with spray in liner. It is a product called Raptor. TP Tools sells it. $99 for a 1 gallon kit, includes the sprayer. Just need to hook up to a compressor. It took a good two weeks or so for the smell to go away. But this was middle of winter when i could not open the windows either. Herculiner is very good also and around $100 a kit. You can get that almost anywhere. Also very popular and durable with the jeep guys...

That's looks really good, great job on it. I'll look into how Raptor compares to Rhino Liner and Line-X. Thanks

As far as how it holds up... It's very similar. but you can't even compare price! I was quoted over $700 for the Jeep by a Line-X place! Screw that! This was cake! I had Rhino lining in a pickup I used to own and actually prefer this.

Well, ya gotta understand that I don't need a RUGGED interior that's gunna protect my floors. I don't want so much of a TRUCK BED LINER as I do a.. non-slip floor I guess. Not really but it's hard to explain. I guess I want it as comfortable as possible is what I'm trying to say haha

i am currently running herculiner in my civic. believe it or not it actually deadens some of the road noise and sound. I really want to do a rhino lining inside but funds dont allow that at the times. I have rhino lining in my truck bed and its lifetime warranty. any chips, gouges, anything the respray it. I have hauled about 30 tons of scrap iron in the bed and 20+ cords of walnut wood. I must say that stuff takes a beating and their warranty is a no questions asked, if damage is there it is repaired for free, they really stand behind thier warranty. All aside if I had the money I would have it in my civic since there is a leak somewhere in the cowl. If funds dont allow i would do herculiner until they do.
