???s 4 Smart Guys and Gals
In "restoring" a '94 Civic VX and wanting to make it as fuel efficient as possible, the following questions surfaced:
1) If the car's weight is greatly reduced, will that adversely effect the ECU/ECM readings?
2) While new, higher gauge ignition and ground wires can increase horse power due to decreased power loss, can that adversely effect gas mileage?
3) Will installing a lighter carbon fibre and/or titanium exhaust and muffler adversely effect gas mileage and/or /ECU/ECM readings?
4) KYB gas shock vs Monroe Strut... who wins and why?
5) Are there any must knows regarding installing and using carbon fibre quarter panels and hood?

Free flowing intake and exhaust systems: Can you tell me more about these or lead me in the right direction for more info? Also, are there plastic or composite fuel tanks available?

I'm not exactly sure of your gas saver project goals, but maybe you should consider buying a honda insight or toyota prius.

The factory intake system on most Honda's usually consists of a convoluted maze of plastic, that pulls air from the front passenger side of the bumper, but is optimized for quiet operation, and can be improved upon for better performance as well as better gas mileage. By upgrading to a free flow intake system, and eliminating the factory plastic air box and resonator.
On the exhaust side, again, the factory system is designed for quiet operation, and can be improved upon with a mandrel bent, larger diameter system, and muffler that is not chambered, but rather uses a straight through design.
You can find some info here:

Good luck.
