Default Carbon Fiber Trunk

Hey, I recently got a good offer on a carbon fiber trunk for my EK. It's a VIS. I have a 12" Alpine Type R sub in the trunk right now. How sturdy is this trunk? Can it take the constant bass waves?

Probably I wouldent have them directly aimed at the trunk though.

first off, please don't say bump. or thump. or any of those audio-ricer terms.

and second. that sub does perform well. if mated to the right AMP with a decent Headunit you could very well tune the subwoofer to perform well beyond what you think it could.

and third, carbon fiber is stiffer than you're standard fiberglass or metal. Hoods are made of CF and they with stand bumps and rattles and all that ****. so Id say you will be fine.

No, it's going to disintegrate instantly. Better leave the sub out.

I think it will be fine. Carbon fiber trunks are pretty strong.

Alright, thanks for the help guys! I got the trunk on now, and it's pretty damn sturdy, so I think it'll be alright.

Not sure, it's not too much, but I got the trunk for basically free... I traded my stock + si wing for it. I can pick up another stock trunk for cheap, so I wasn't too worried about it.

For the time being... I picked up this EK earlier today... stock motor still. As soon as I get the loan paid off, I'm gonna swap it...

Still got my b16 DA though, til this weekend when it should be sold.

so let me get this straight you want to put on a carbon fiber trunk lid, and are worried about the Sub destroying it. Ironically you putting on peice design to save weight(for how expensive it is there are much better cheaper options to save weight, but they have no bling factor), but are worried about a very heavy sub that might destroy it. The sub wont destroy it but whats the point in having a carbon anything when you still have stuff to take out. Like the sub.

wieght difference if it is a VIS is

CF Trunk = 13 lbs

Stock Trunk = 52 lbs

that is both completely empty, no lights, lockcylinder, cables, or wiring............

Trust me stock EX trunk with nothing does not way 52 pounds. Even if it did you would have 39 pound weight savings. Get rid of the Sub and buy a light weight battery you would save the same amount of wieght and spend like 50 bucks for the same weight saving.

Can anyone weigh a Ek trunk lid. I might try today

that 52 came from my trunk i weighed two weeks ago, thats what my scale said....and the 13 lbs i weighed the VIS trunk, and then i confirmed with VIS that it was correct...

i'm glad somebody pointed that out!!!!! Get rid of the sub, not only for weight reasons, but for the fact that if some a$$hole hears the bass consider it gone. All it will take is a large prybar to break the latch off your carbon fiber trunk off. This will not only ruin the trunk but your sub will be gone!!!! Your car will stand out like jenna jamison at a stripclub, with that trunk. So be SMART and lose the sub or someone will lose it for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
