spoon makes a carbon kevlar intake tube, it isnt CAI tho. There really isnt any point to it. Aluminum is pretty damn light, dont waste your money.

and aluminum is a better material... CF is way more subject to heat soak... and in some cases (probobly most if it's not well engineered) CF doesn't fair too well in high heat apps...
I'd be worried about the epoxy melting and leaving deposits in my engine... like peoples "money saving" diy pvc intakes.

Not sure about the cold air, but MMR used to sell a pretty cheap Short Ram. I would just use that, and get a cold air extention. Krylon that bitch black and you are set!

I have a copy of that J's intake. No complaints from me.

You can actually find the BMC Carbon Dynamic Airboxes on my company website. Please pardon the server - I'm in the process of working out an upgrade.

Re: Carbon Fiber CAI?? Who makes them? (D16Z6racing)
Hey towns, how do you like that intake set-up? I have a similar one on my gf's D16 but with PRMRacing intake, I had to gap a space between the opening of the filter element and the cool air duct cuz it didn't seem to idle correctly. Now that it's gapped, idles alot better and I still get all the cool air I need.

an interesting observation of mine, I've owned a carbon fiber/billet aluminum shift ****. The metal part gets extremely hot on a sunny day while the carbon fiber part stayed cool in comparison.

Interesting counter points taken from http://www.fcc.co.jp/JCFA/cs/s....html
Carbon fibers have many advantageous characteristics such as... excellent heat resistance ... and resistance to chemical agents. ... Heat Insulating Material... Excellent in resistance to heat and to chemical agents.

That's odd... I will try to find the link but I read a year or two ago on an aircraft industry site that one of the downsides of CF was it's in-ability to be used in high heat situations... possibly they meant HIGH heat situations...
I was shocked when the endyne cf intake manifold came out...
And the epoxy used to set it would also have sway on it's ability to stand up to heat... Also whether or not the epoxy is designed to not break down in heat...
Good info though.
