Car won't start when warm!!! NOT MAIN RELAY please help!!
I have a 92 vx eg hatch with a 95 odb1 b18b1 motor.
The car seems to start fine when its been sitting for awhile.
If I drive the car around and turn it off while its at operating temprature, it wont start.
The car just turns over and gets slower and weaker each time. If I keep trying it will make a "click" noise.
If I let the car sit for about 5 mins or so, it'll start but, still not as quickly as as it should.
I replaced my battery, and the main relay... it still does it...
What could this be, since it only happens once the car is warmed up??
Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Any CEL codes?
When the engine WON'T start:
1) Turn the from off to ON(II). Do you hear the fuel pump prime for 2 seconds?
2) Check for spark. Click the spark link in my signature.
Also have the alternator tested.

Thanks for your reply. I have no CEL codes. To be honest, I don't think I even have a check engine light.
It hasn't came on once since I've owned the car (1 year)..Either the bulb is out or someone removed the bulb for what ever stupid reason...
Yes I do hear the fuel pump, it primes as soon as the key is turned, it sounds healthy.
I'm about to check on that spark link....
I just recently checked my alternator.

Turn the key from off to ON(II). The CEL should turn on and then off after 2 seconds. If it never turns on, pull the cluster out to check whether the bulb was removed or has burned out. Install a good bulb and then check for CEL codes. See CEL sticky.

I also forgot to mention.... I did a full wire tuck which includes relocation of the fuse box to the glove box. My battery is relocated as well...In the hatch.
I'm using a small distribution block with 8ga inputs and outputs. The starter wire is a 12ga and the battery is a 8ga.
You think the terminal on the starter would mess up once it gets hot?
Could the smaller starter wire be too small? Maybe the Distribution block is faulty?
I know there is a lot of different things I could replace but, I just want to get a good answer before I start throwing parts at it.
What about a coolant temp sensor?

Sorry about that. I'm just anxious to figure this out.
I understand that I should do what you suggested to start the diagnosis process.
I would be outside right now replacing my bulb and checking for spark but, its getting late here and all my tools are at the shop.
Tomorrow I will get on it and then get back with you. Thanks.

Do the previously suggested checks, but you're also right to suspect a ECT sensor. The ECT sensor is responsible for hot soak start fuel trim, so just like you described about trying to start the car at opperating tempurature. If the spark tests don't fix the problem, I'd move to the ECT next.

Just wondering....I'm still gonna do the CEL bulb and spark check tomorrow...
Couldn't it be something as simple as the starter wire? like I said above, I used a 12ga for the starter. I believe the factory starter wire is something close to a 0ga. You think the 12ga wire is too small? like it gets too hot and stops working?
