Default Car won't start when its hot outside. NOT MAIN RELAY.

I have an H22A in a 92 Civic Hatchback. Recent installation. Problem has occurred since the install. I also made the entire engine harness myself for the wire tuck.

When its cool outside or the car is sitting in the shade, the car starts and runs fine. It will idle in the shade until the engine has been at operating temperature for about 10-15 minutes, then it will die and wont turn over any more. There are no lights in the dash and the fuel pump does not kick on.

I have the same problem is the car has been sitting in the sun. There is no power getting to anything in the car. Battery voltage is fine.

I have desoldered and resoldered all of the joints on my main relay already. I have alot of experience soldering and consider myself quite proficient at it. After desoldering the board, i did NOT remove the conformal coating on the PCB, so remaining coating IS contaminating the resoldered joint.

I purchased a NEW main relay and installed it today. Same problem. Car sat in the sun all day, and no power is getting to anything. Just out of curiosity I put the new main relay in the freezer for a few minutes, reinstalled it, and there was no change.

What else could it be besides the main relay?

Sounds like you screwed something up when you hacked the wiring harness.

Check for breaks in the wires, bad ground, shorts, etc.

That is a possibility, but I never touched any of the wiring for the ignition switch or fuel pump. If there were a short, i'd have my battery draining or fuses would be popping.

Think I'm going to end up tracing the wiring all the way from the battery to the fuel pump.

It can be the ignitor.

Regardless, here is a good link to help troubleshoot. Go to ignition problems.

Heat = resistance

Something is barely connected and when heat is applied the extra resistance is not letting enough power thru. Or...

Could be a bad relay. When it is cool it is making an ok connection but add heat and the connection goes to hell.

Check some voltages when cold then recheck them when the problem is present.

Re check your grounds for frayed wires and such too.

C'mon Mr. Electrical Engineer don't let this little car mess with you.

if you seriously mean "no power is getting to anything,"
then you should check the basics, like your battery cables and such.

Bad cables can LOOK fine and even be fairly tight on the batt. posts, but still cause problems.

Smart man. Fixed the problem today. I have a car audio fused distribution block coming off my relocated battery. The fuses weren't conducting when they got hot.
