Default Car wont start Possibly Fuel pump ???

My brother recently swapped a jdm b18c engine into his 97 civic coupe. The fuel pump wasnt changed since the new engine was installed, He inquired about it when it was being installed but the mechanic said he would be fine. Anyways, last night on a long highway drive (he said it was possibly the longest he drove the car since he had it) the car began hesitating every once in a while. The air/fuel gauge would read to lean... and once he stomped gas it would not go... and would miss.... but then eventually it would be back to normal.

After that.... we were near home and on some street roads and the car was driving perfect. After parking, and trying to restart.... the car wouldnt start. It was cranking but still nothing, tried adding some gas from a tank and still nothing. It was late and we didnt check the fuel pressure gauge in the bay to see if it was rising on start but ill have to check that tommorow.

But still I was wondering if you think it was most likely the fuel pump. Since he got the engine, everytime he put gas in... every single time after the gas tank was open and the gas was filled the car would start and then die... or once in a while almost die and then come back. We never really thought anything of it.
Is that a symptom of a dying fuel pump? plus... its still the stock fuel pump?.... Which does flow a good rate less than the stock gsr fuel pump the car's engine was made for. No other problems were ever noticed with the car since he got the engine.... so im inquiring whether you all would think it most likely is the fuel pump?

Thanx in advance for your help

spray some starting fluid into the throttle body and see if it starts
if it starts, then check for fuel comming out of the regulator side (return side)

damn import kids

its like gasoline in an aerosol can. you spray it into the intake manifold then try to start the car. if it runs for a second or 2 you then know your ignition system is working and its related to the fuel system.

When you turn the ignition on you should hear a buzzing\humming sound coming from your pump. If you dont hear the pump, it could be that your fuel pump relay is bad.
