car wont start
jdm d15b (eg) wont start, crank, nothin.fuel pump primes, CEL comes on and turns back off, changed out the starter, fuses look good, grounds look o.k., and tried jumping. Bump starting down a hill worked... any ideas?
Thanks in advance

1) Check the safety starter switch at the top of clutch pedal. Could be a bad switch or the rubber stopper broke or fell out.
2) Check whether the starter cranks if it is wired directly to the battery.
3) Check the ignition switch.

car wont even turn to test for spark, ill check that clutch bypass under where my left foot is, that's been the culprit before.

Re: car wont start
checked the clutch switch, ill try wiring the starter to the batt. when i get off work tonight... and maybe take a closer look at the fuses by my left knee...
weird thing i noticed... the fuel pump runs (or the fuel system is doin somethin) when i turn the key to the cranking position (III) and hold it there...

Re: car wont start
wired starter up and nothin still, beat on it, nothin... switched out the ecu with one that ive used before (think it still works), but it did the same thing. turn the key everything's normal fuel pump primes, shuts off, CEL comes on and off (stays off), when i try to turn the motor all I hear is the fuel system priming.

If, when wired directly to the battery, the starter won't crank the engine, then the engine is seized or the starter is bad. I assume that because the fuel pump primes, the transmission ground is fine.

Re: car wont start
i doubt the engine is seized because i am able to bump-start it, or at least that's how i got it home... I'm on the same page about the starter, just weird that my spare is bad (guess that's why it was just lyin around, huh?)

Re: car wont start
Yep, sounds like starter for sure. If the spare starter was well used before left sitting it's possible that the contacts inside corroded, or that the brushes for the starter failed, or even that the hold down solenoid in the starter took a dump.
