Default Car wont shift into Reverse 2000 Civic SiR

Hey,

I just bought a 2000 Honda Civic two weeks ago and been loving it. Tonight driving home I noticed a problem. I was driving down my hill preparing to back into my driveway. Push the clutch in and go to put the car in reverse except it wont go. I circled the block a few times and made sure that I could get 1-5 gear with no problems but again it refused to shift into reverse. Any idea why this is? Hopefuly its a cheap fix because money is tight. It just happend about 15 minutes ago and its already 1:30am where I am so even the most basic things would help for when I wake up tommorow.

Thank you.

Sometimes you just need to run the transmission through the gears to get it to go into reverse. The teeth need to line up and in the cold, it can be stiffer than normal.

It could also be the reverse fork inside the tranny. Does your stick feel tight? If it doesn't feel tighter than my step sister's ***, something needs to be replaced.

Sometimes I have to put it into first then reverse
Or...
I'll try to put in into reverse and if it won't go in I'll back off the clutch a little until it does

i had this problem, it was very difficult to get to go into reverse and i would almost always have to put it in 1st a few times. a few weeks later my shift linkage clip snapped and the pin fell out. Had to go to the honda dealership and order a Pin for 1.50 and a clip for 4 something. Tightened my stick up to a brand new feel and go rid of the problem.

tl;dr Replace Shift Linkage Pin, Might Work But No Promises

When you are trying to get it into reverse and it won't go in, try letting the clutch pedal out just a little bit, it should pop into gear.

D & B series.

whenever this happens to me i usually just have to take my feet off the clutch and brake, only step on the clutch, and put it into reverse. for some reason sometimes it wont go in if i hold my foot on the brake.
