car wont idle when started...swapped EK
i got a '00 LS motor in my 97 EX civic. everything went cool with the swap. when i tried to start it at first i couldnt get it to start without holding down the gas slightly for around 10secs then it will idle. at first i thought it was because i didnt have the exhaust hooked up yet.
well i hooked up the exhaust, and i still have the same problem. when i start it, it will either start and idle so low that it almost stalls, or will stall unless i give it gas for around 10secs. after that, itll run fine until i cut it off. then if i crank it back up, itll crank up and idle ok, although still somewhat low (500rpm or so). i was also driving last night and threw a code 14 (IACV). this is on a '00 LS motor with only 48xxx on it. i took it off and cleaned it with carb cleaner and im letting it dry now. i just dont get what my problem is since the car idles fine after it runs for around 10 secs with the gas slightly pushed in. help me out HT!!! |
Re: car wont idle when started...swapped EK (boostin4drcivic)
oh yea, on a side note, could my throttle cable have something to do with this?? im using the '97 civic ex cable on the modified LS bracket. it doesnt appear to have a ton of slack in it or nothing....maybe it needs slight adjustment?? stumped http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

if the cable doesnt work you can try turning the little screw thats on the throttle body with a flat tipped screw driver. and the car should be on so u know if your turning it the right way.

Re: (LSVTEC91)
i dont think that has anything to do with it. if that was the case, it would never idle. it does idle ok after it warms up

Re: (boostin4drcivic)
I did the same swap in my 98 EK and it does the exact same thing. It idles low and it gives me trouble in the morning when i go to start it. But once it worms up it runs good. If you find out what the problem is Let Me Know

Re: (Boriqua0555)
you have to switch a wire on the A connector at the ECU for the IAC. im not sure of the pins maybe someone can help you out its been a while for me. i think a 12 to 14 maybe but dont quote me on that

thats only if ur using a DX/CX harness. im using the EX harness and its all plug and play |
check dizzy, plugs, plug wires......simple shit first, lets eliminate shit before we jump to conclusions....what ecu u usin?

Re: (Bseriescivic5)
went to my boy's shop and he double checked the timing. it was 1 degree off and he set the timing to 16, dizzy is fine, plugs and wires are brand new. using the stock p75 ecu. im not a newbie, i have checked all of the small shit first.
he used his obd2 scanner tool to check for everything. IACV code came right back so i need to take it off completely this time and give it a more thorough cleaning. no other codes. running temp is fine, idle is at 750rpm. only thing we found wrong was that my throttle is sticking lightly and holding it open 9%. he said that may be why it doesnt want to idle in the morning cuz its thowing 9% more fuel in the chamber when the car is on the cold circuit mode and is most likely bogging it down to where it cant idle until i open it up and let more air in. my question to HT, is there a FITV on a '00 LS motor?? if so, then maybe that might be part of the problem too because my motor doesnt start up higher rpm then go down as the car warms up. http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif gonna spray the throttle plate as well to clean it thoroughly and stop the sticking problem. other than that...i dunno. |
