car will not drive
To start off with i have a 97 ex coupe w/ a b16 from an em1. The other night i was driving around in clifton and the check engine light came on. The car was running fine except would not hit vtec when the light came on. The next day the car takes a few seconds longer than normal to start, and idles low and rough. If i give the car any gas, it instantly dies. If i barely feather the gas pedal rpm's will rise but it sounds weak. From searching the forums it seems like this could be a bad tps. I can scan the light at work tom (monday jan 14), however i was just seeing if anyone has ever dealt with this problem before. Thanks!

Alright guys so i got the scanner from work today to try and scan the cel, and lo and behold i forgot my car has a chipped p28 ecu...so the computer is obd1 i guess and the scanner only scans obd2. I tried the jumper method to see how many times the engine light would flash and that didnt work either. I guess ill have to get a voltmeter to check the tps since thats the most likely culprit. Anyone have any other advice for me? Im in college and need to get this thing fixed asap so i have a way to get to school. Thanks a lot!

you sure you tried the jumper right? get a clean paper clip and make sure its in right. i figured that the clip was connected to it right.

i wouldn't see why the jumper wouldn't work. try it again and make sure you wiggle it around until it makes a good connection. i've had the problem before.

Thanks for the advice, i retried the jumper method and it worked. If theres more than one code is there a slight pause between flashing sequences? Because it flashed quickly 6 times(water temp sensor), then paused, then flashed 7 times quickly(tps), then paused, then flashed one long time (im guessing code 10, iat). Or if im wrong those numbers add up to 23 and it could be a knock sensor. What do you all think? Im gonna check the tps with a voltmeter tom and try and readjust it or get a new one, but what do you think about the water temp sensor and iat sensor?

there you go you got your 3 error codes. replace or clean. I would also check if your tps and map are not switched. just do it just in case. it wont really harm your car.

tested the tps, 5.04v at idle and wot. So i guess the sensor essentially froze at the wot reading. Guess its time to get a new one...my other question is could the tps going bad cause the iat or coolant temp sensor to go bad or trip an engine light because they were both working fine before this happened.
