car wants to stall

car wants to stall
I have a b18c in a 2000 civic hx. Has worked perfect for 2 years but for the past 6 months my car wants to stall every once in a while, sometimes I can go weeks with out having a problem, other times it happens for a day to a week straight. the car idles fine but when given gas it sputters. when put in to gear it wants to stall unless I rev extra high. And when I want to go fast it sometimes sputters. I have put a new fuel filter, plugs, wires in and put injection cleaner in and dry gas many times. It seams to happen at random times with out any method. I am thinking it might possibly be my fuel pump, but its just a guess. anyone have any other ideas what will be causing this? I did search with out much luck. Thanks.

Re: car wants to stall
ive had the same problem with my ek ever since I bought it. It doesnt happen as often as yours though maybe every 2 or 3 months it will idle so low it will die at lights and stops. Ive fixed it every time with fuel system cleaner. so far thats been the problem and it works perfect after that bottle. from your symptoms though it sounds like your fuel pump might be on its way out, thats how it was on my ef I would have to rev it up so it wouldnt die but it would still sputter. if you got the dough I would do that since you replaced everything else already and it sounds like it will be the fp

a lot of people will say go oem, and if thats what you would like go for it Im not sure what they run for but I think a pretty penny. I bought a walbro off line for $99 worked good, was a bit louder than stock but nothing really noticeable.

Re: car wants to stall
do you run your gas on empty a lot? have you run out of gas recently before this problem came up? if so it could be the pump on its way out. if so the walbro seems to be the best bet unless you got a free/cheap oem one from a local club member.

Re: car wants to stall
yea, I am looking at a walbro 255lph fuel pump for $89 with free shipping on ebay. Looks like this will be the best route to go. Anyone have any other opinions on other brand fuel pumps? Anything I need to know about replacing the pump? special tools? plug and play I am assuming? Im sure I will need to disconnect my battery first. any info that will help is appreciated. thanks

i dont believe so, you'll just get a little worse gas mileage, did you get new injectors. my friends civic was doing that, like he'd start his car and it would stall so he would pump the gas a few times then start it again and it was fine, he changed injectors and never had the problem again. its a little more money but you can get lucky sometimes and find them cheaper

Re: car wants to stall
I'd most likely say fuel pump on the way out. If it stops trying to stall when you rev it up and it revs up without any problems it could also be an injector stuck open. Honda is not really known for this happening but on RX-7's it was a pretty common thing. Also, is your IACV functioning correctly?
