Default This car is a turd but I love it.

I've got a 98 EX with a y7 swap. I bought the car this way, and it has a lot of miles on it. Not sure how many miles on the swap. Anyways it's been doing this since I bought the car 6 months ago and has gotten progressively worse... When in any gear, in low rpms and under load the car kind of jerks until it reaches a certain rpm. Not that engine sputters or anything like a misfire or anything of that nature, its just really jerky until it gets to 2500 rpms or so. It's not all the time, more so when pulling a hill in low rpms or under a lot of load. Any ideas??? Maybe a transmission issue? Timing??? Other than that the car seems mechanically sound, maybe a quite bit sluggish.. thanks in advance.

No CEL, Is there a way to post a video to this thread to give a better idea of what I am experiencing? I'm not even sure this is an engine issue, or a transmission deal. It is a manual transmission. It's almost like it surges when in low rpms, and only under load like trying to pull a slight hill, and it smooths out as I get close to like 2000-2500 rpm.

I have a buddy whose accord dies the same thing. Don’t change gears so soon maybe Does it do it in first gear? If not then maybe let your Rpms stay a little higher when under more stress

Come to think of it, no it never does it in 1st gear. I feel like I'd really have to keep it revved up a good bit to keep it from doing it and where my exhaust is loud i don't like doing that much while driving in town and drawing unwanted attention. With no facts to back up my opinion, for some reason I feel like it may have something to do with the timing belt. Like if the belt is old and worn could it cause it to be stretched and therefore be slightly out of time, especially when the engine is under load causing it to be sluggish and jerky/pulsating in low rpm?

Check the timing. Improper cam or spark timing will cause it to run badly but not throw CEL codes.

After checking that, consider that misfiring at low rpm and heavy throttle is usually due to weak sparks.

is it misfiring or is it just sluggish? And If you give it more gas does it stop

y7 is stock motor... soo its not really a swap its just a used motor in the chassis it belongs in A . And B its obd2 which means its throwing the check engine code long before runnign poorly like that... check CEL codes and go from there

I really feel like it may be timing related. I'm fixing to do a timing belt and water pump, hoping this will help. It needs the water pump replaced anyway it has a little leak.

It actually is a swap, because it's an ex it was originally a y8. I checked the VIN when I bought the car to be sure because at the time I was unfamiliar with Honda's. No cel codes though.

Yes I am sure, I considered the possibility that my light wasn't working and hooked it to an obd reader, no codes. I did get a code for crank shaft position sensor a few months back, cleared the code and it never came back.

So dirty plugs or improper Gap could be the issue? I will certainly pull my plugs and check them out. Also, will someone explain how to quote more than one post in a single post so I don't have to reply to everyone individually? And again, thanks everyone for their imput and help.

Nevermind I see it now. Guess I had to sign in for it to pop up. Thanks.
