Car Stolen...
Yeah, so I guess I'm now part of the club. I was the guy posting asking what should be the next step for my '99 Honda Civic SI, it having minor engine work from the previous owner and I invested in a magnaflow catback... yada yada.
Well I didn't get to make that step. Before I could invest in an alarm as you suggested, it was stolen right from my driveway. I am most certainly not buying another EM1 as long as I live. It was a fun car but not worth the hassle of worrying if it won't be where you parked it when you go back out.
Now I'm back to the old Ford Focus my mother was using as a winter beater. I'll wait to be reimbursed by the insurance because I doubt I'll be seeing that thing again.
But at 19 I'm only paying $57 a month for the focus to be insured under my own policy(usaa), so I'd say it's time for an LS1 come this summer.
Keep those cars safe guys, don't think it won't happen to you because I am a prime example. I never saw this coming. I usually park another car to block it in overnight but this night I got lazy and figures it gets stolen..

Yeah I don't give up on Honda's, but I will definitely look at more bland models and just enjoy the reliability and gas mileage.
Thinking maybe an '06+ when I get to my duty station, but a sohc model.
Yeah and mine was that blue color I grew quite fond of haha..

That's one problem. Electron Blue Pearl is exclusive to the Civic Si in the US. So any car in that color is assumed to have some upgraded parts that are good for a thief.
Even a Milano Red or Flamenco Black Pearl (those are the other colors the Si came in) would have less of a chance perhaps since all other coupes (DX, EX, HX) come in those colors. The EX, with it's painted trim, would be the closest by appearance. It'd be interesting to see someone with a red or black Si do an "EX conversion by putting black sideskirts on, a different front grille and maybe some different wheels that also won't show off the rear brakes.

that def would be a good idea, but it takes the meaning out of a em1. for example i converted my FBP EJ8 to a EM1 clone, it draws attention for theft, but i love the stock em1 appearance. (crossing my fingers).

Damn, that is just insane. Didn't you just buy the EM1 days ago? I remember seeing a thread about you buying one. Who ever knew you would be making a "stolen" thread so soon.

Well, the only things the Si has that the other Civics never got from the factory (exterior wise) are the wheels, front grille, emblems on the rear and stickers on the sides. The front lip and sideskirts were optional on the other trims.
I don't know how that "takes the meaning out of" owning an Si.

I wonder which color EM1 in the US gets stolen most often. I know most EM1s are blue, so that'd have to be taken into consideration.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Well i know for a fact EBP attract the most attention every time i would take my buddies out people would constantly look . But with mine Black EM1 i got alot less attention while driving just because there SOO many people here in Boston that got clones of black EM1 so most just assume that its another clone which i have no problem with at all . . . but sorry to hear about ur loss wish u the best with ur next vehicle and hopefully you take more caution

I have a red '98 EX coupe. When I take a drive, I constantly get looks too. I had a friend that thought it was the coolest thing, but it kind of weirds me out since theft is so high here.
And mine isn't an Si clone or anything.

I hate threads like this because I own a blue EM1. It seems to not be a matter of if my car will be stolen but rather when it will be stolen. On the bright side, my car will be kept essentially stock, so I won't really lose anything when the insurance company pays the value of the base vehicle. Anyway dude, sorry to hear about your car.

The insurance company will be dicks to you. They will probably low ball you by quite a bit. I know they did when I totaled my '97 EX coupe. I fought for a couple months with them. They'd rather pay out and be able to sell the vehicle to salvage.

sorry to hear. i remember some thief were trying to steal my EM1 a while back lucking i have the auto lock for the steering wheel that goes over and under the steering colum and also another autolock on the brake and got 2 step alarm system with air horn they pass every thing except the autolock on my steering wheel the whole steering wheel were bend but they cant get the autolock off. so they steal as much as possible in the interior and took off. at the end insurance payed to fix the car and total out about 7k of damages. and after its fixed i put it back to stock and sold it right away. so even with the right alarm always make sure u have a secondary protection.

Re: (simpledc5)
Thanks for the support guys. Still no word. I don't expect one. Driving the focus again. Damn that thing feels so dull compared to my em1, and it's a 5 speed.:/
Edit: been a sad few days. The wife went back to basic training from exodus. I noticed the myspace profile status was "is with the wife". Now the car's gone and the high res pic of the civic I took with my camera is off my desktop background. Rather not be reminded right now.
And the focus is only an spi, not even their ztec model.

Re: Car Stolen... (EGHachi)
Man I've been thinking about selling my FG2 to go back to the great EM1 (you guys don't know how lucky you are with a throttle cable), but all this reminds me all too much how I used to not be able to sleep when my EM1 was on the street, especially here in SF. I had my turbo EM1 on the streets of SF for about 3 years with an alarm, kill switch, and an autolock (brake). Luckily only one theft attempt was made and they didn't even make it in the car. Even with my boost gage showing and all. I have yet to hear about a 2006+ civic get stolen, maybe I should just keep the $500/month payment. Sorry to hear man. I don't think you should give up on honda's though.

i have a black em1
my Em1 got stolen before so i think the thief will take any color even the ex or any kind of si conversion
May be when the thieves see the EBP em1, they will just follow you home. but for red or black, they need to figure out if they would like to steal it or not.
