Default Car stereo Problem

Yeah so I'm working on my cousin's 93 civic vx hatchback, I replace the stock radio with a kenwood system. Installed everything correctly as far as I can tell. The problem is, after turning the key, i was expecting the deck to turn on and I'll be able to hear music; but the system won't turn. So I did alil investigating and found out that the fuse is popped. I replace that with a new one and that'll be the end of it but it wasn't. turn the key over, nothing again. So far I'm stuck at this point. I was thinking it could be my harness but it powered the stock one fine, the new deck works fine as well since i tested that on another car. So what can the problem be? Hoping someone came upon the same problem(s) and solved it...

there is a memory fuse under the hood. Check that one out. You need 12v on both the constant and switched wires.

Where is that located precisely? Secondly, how would I go about that? just replace it the fuse?

are you sure you grounded the stereo? that could lead to blown fuses.

Sounds to me like there's a crimped wire, maybe when you pushed the upgraded HU in a ground wire got caught on an edge and clipped a peice of metal.

well what I usually do is tap the wires first with electrical tape before I replace them with connectors. So I didn't push the unit in its place yet... I usually test out the system before hand, but this one just got me stuck.

Constant power comes from the Wht/Blu wire that is protected by hood fuse 32 (7.5A).

Ignition switch power comes from the Yel/Red wire that is protected by dash fuse 23 (15A).

Dimmer switch light power comes from the Red/Blk wire that is protected by dash fuse 19 (10A).

Check these fuses and whether each wire has battery voltage.

If the three power wires are fine, then also verify that the black ground wire has continuity to ground.

If worst comes to worst, I might have to resort to this...

every problem i have ever had with radios always turns out it was my wiring mistakes. Sometimes going through with a multimeter and double checking that you have ground ignition power constant power etc where you should is the best thing to do some. Also radios won't work right if there not actually slid into their mount. If you have double checked these things and your not blowing fuses it's quite possible the radio is bad i have gotten a couple brand new radios that were bad from the factory. You could double check if the radio is bad by hooking it directly to another battery.

if I had to guess, Id say there's a short somewhere. Make sure you cap all the wires that you're not using and cover all your crimps with electric tape or liquid electric tape. Normally a blown fuse means there's a short

Start by checking whether any of the fuses that I mentioned are blown. If not, then it's unlikely that you have a short.

Check all the related fuses, Everything seems fine. So there's no short.

Have you tried plugging the factory radio back in? Try it just to see if it powers up. If it does, then the problem is your wiring or the kenwood radio. Is there a fuse on the back of the kenwood radio that might be blown?

Odd thing to say, because I just popped in the stock radio a few hours ago, and now that don't work as well. The Kenwood head unit fuse is ok. It's giving me a headache, I'll just have to tell my cousin to take it somewhere.

Thanks for all your help guys...

theres only 3 wires that control power to your radio... now if you dont have a DMM do this. take your red and yellow wire and combine then, first try it to your 12v from the car. if it turns on your acc wire isn't getting power. do the same with the acc wire. should give you a idea which wire to look for. cause its either a fuse under the dash or under the hood. make sure your ground is good. also check the fuses for dome light, cig lighter (make sure there isnt anything jammed inside the socket), dimmer light, clock. they all share the fuses for a radio. i know cause i do this for a living. PM me if you have any questions
