Car starting problems... wont go past 2236 RPMS
ive been just messing with it and i finally got it started. I put in new plugs rotor and I put a ICM from a D16z6.
The car will start but the Tach fluctuates to much.. it will pause and just jump up out of the blue. The Alternator is fine.
No CEL are being thrown. Ive reset the ECU and started and still the same problem.
Kinda sounds like a misfire But i cannot reve the engine past 2236 RPM's
My VAFC RPM readings got stuck at that number and the motor ran for a couple more seconds and just died with no signs of a low idle..
what could the problem be?

Re: (JDMlyfestyle)
a couple things you might wanna look into..
1 bouncy tach= bad ignitor, or loose connection @ ignitor.
2 check to make sure that the rotor inside the distributor has not melted and caused the rotor to walk.

I swapped an ICM and coil out of a D15 into a B18B, and it ran perfectly fine. I couldn't tell you if ALL d series and b series ICM's are the same, but I can at least tell you that that combination was the same. I wouldn't think a z6 ICM would cause any problems in your b16 unless something got messed up on/inside the part when it was on its way from the z6 to your engine.
If you have access to another ICM that's known to be good, try putting that in your car to test. That's all I can think of right now, good luck man.

OK i got the car started and it sounds like a misfire with the Z6 ICM. when i rev it it stops like i hit a revlimiter this time it allowed me to rev up to 3200 RPM's as soon as i reved it up and let off the gas the car died. and now wont start again. so i need some help here

Re: (JDMlyfestyle)
Try and run it with another running z6 ecu. It my be a ecu malfunction.
The old ecu i was running gave a erratic cold idle, CEL code 41, and ran my b20 extremely lean. I just recently brought another working ecu and that fix all my problem. I never thought it was the ecu until i try everything else including testing 02, connections, distributor, fuel lines, etc. Good luck

Ok i got it fixed. after trying 3 spare ICM's from a z6. and it still caused it. i went and bought a new ICM for a SI. and it works car runs perfectly fine. i just dont understand since the z6 and Si use the same part # from honda.
