car start but dies when i let key go
something very weird is going on ... seems electrical to me ... but idk .... when i start the put the key in the "on" position when the dashboard lights all come on n stuff nothing happens it's all dead ... when i move it a little forward of that position then the lights come on and the beeping and radio ...
so yea when i go to start the car when it comes back to the position that it's supposed to be in after u let it go it dies on me ... if i hold the key forward like i'm tryin to start the car it stays running but i don't think that's good to do because i hear some weird noise when i keep it turned that much ... but yea i'm stumped ...
it wouldn't be my alternator cuz the batt isn't dying right? could it be the starter or a starter wire or something? I know my gf had trouble with her civic a ways back and her mechanic told her she had a loose starter wire or something ... I have this car for about 2 more weeks then I'm done with it ...
so please help me ... even if it's just a temp fix ... like i said 2 weeks and then poof no more EG for me .. moving up to 2005 ex coupe thanx in advance guys

i would say its something do do with your ignition switch, maybe its its loose inside or something and wont hold locked for the positions to where u want it... just a thought, anyone correct me if im wrong.

Re: car start but dies when i let key go (ibe2fly)
ok so today my car died going 70 on the taconic after waiting 2 hours to see if it would start i found that i could drive home holding the ignition key at a certain position. So I drove about 25 miles like that. If I hit a bump it would cut off because the key would move to its default position. I'm going to search and see how hard it is to install a new ignition switch

you probably just need the electrical portion of the ignition switch.
When I needed one for my wifes car, I got the whole steering column assembly for $50 from a salvage yard.
