car stalled, no clue
I was driving my 93 vx and noticed that it lost major power. Then I pulled into a gas station and it al of a sudden just quit. I tried to start it, but it wouldn't start. It will turn over and it feels like it wants to start, but it back fires when you let off the key, and then blows smoke out of the intake. Seems to me the timing got all fed up and is blowing the exhaust out of the intake valves, but a mark on the cam gear lines up with a mark on the timing belt. Anybody have any idea. There was a blown fuse under the hood, and it was the "BACK UP" fuse that is located right next to the ecu fuse. I replaced that and it still would not fire up. I am getting fuel to the rail, and spark. I ran out of ideas and need help, I miss my car.

Re: car stalled, no clue (shoebox)
When you say you're getting spark is that at the wire or at the wire with a plug in it? Sounds like it could be as easy as fouled plugs (has happened to me several times before). Possible causes of this could be running to rich or problems in the distributor causing a lapse of spark allowing the plugs to foul. Check ignitor, cap, rotor, etc.

Look to see if your throwing code 15 when this happens (no CEL will come on) if so its going out. Its inside the Distributer kind of far in there. But if you pull the cap off and the rotor youll see it if it smells like its burned then more then likely it is.

Re: car stalled, no clue (Luserkid)
well I pulled the cap off the distributor and found that it is all rusty in there. And then I was looking at my rotor, and it was melted on the little shaft it goes onto. I am going to try putting a new cap, rotor, and ignitor in, but do you have any idea if a dx dizzy will work on a vx? I have a dx distributor in my garage. Let me know. Thanks a lot guys

From my understanding you could use the DX distributer and youll be fine. Ignitors arent cheap, but you could use the DX ignitor for your VX dissy. Just get a cap and rotor and it sounds like youll be good to go. HTH
