Default Car Sputters badly then turns off ! - CEL #3 ?

Hello all,

Just gave the car a wash, moved the car (no water in engine bay or anything), all seems fine. Went to start it, now it sputters then dies. When it does start, it sputters for 4 seconds at low rpm and then CEL comes on and the car then correctly idles but runs like complete crap and bogs. Main relay seems fine.

I can smell "raw" fumes too.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

sounds like you're fuel pressure is off, like you're getting too much. i have an adjuster on my fuel rail and a gauge on my fuel filter...so i can always tell when im having this problem.

but if you didnt do anything to make this happen is possible one of your injectors is clogged or completely failed.

if you can smell gas did you check for a leak. this is what my gf's accord did...and two 'O' rings on the injectors were bad and leaking gas everywhere.

CEL flashed 3 times.

3 & 5 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor or circuit.

What exactly is this pointing too?

when i put the key in, CEL didn't come on at all, then 3 quick flashes.

Unless The wait in one long flash which would make it 13? But that would be 13 BARO - atmospheric pressure sensor which I doubt it is.

car seems to be bogging worse, Just had a look around the MAP, disconnected it. When I started it it didn't struggle with it not connected, but the CEL came on straight away. So it seems its the MAP sens?

But it sounds like it's misfiring now (disconnected each plug but spark seems to be there in each cylinder), seems to have gone worse.

replaced MAP sensor, CEL has now gone but car is still bogging and sounds like mis fire. I will change spark plugs again and post update.

Any more ideas??

first off, don't listen to this guy,

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Pr0ject93hb &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

the map sensor is not the intake sensor, it's the map sensor, that's it.
as i was reading your problem i automatically knew it was your map sensor, then i saw you were able to read the CEL flashes, so you're doing good so far.

now, have you cleared your ecu? if not, unbolt your negative battery terminal for about 5 minutes.

if the problem consists, use the jumper to read the CEL again, there might be another code.

The cel doesn't come on anymore, but when i check it with a pin (not start it) it flashes 3 times, pauses, then flashes 3 times. keeps doing this

I thought I got rid of it completely, but it seems to flash if I check it with the jumper and without starting.

i got your pm.
hmm...are you sure you know what the map sensor is and you changed it out (no disrespect, just i'm not sure how your knowlege of cars is).

if so, where did you get the sensor from? is it new or used?

also, maybe you did what i did when mine went out, i forgot to plug up the hose back to the sensor. giving me a CEL. the problem is i don't quite remember the difference between code 3 and 5.

one of the codes is an actual bad sensor (i think it's code 3), the other indicates a vacuum leak (code 5?).

Thanks for replying,

Basically the MAP sensor is located on the firewall next to the Fuel filter. I have connected the hose and sensor properly. It doesn't give the CEL anymore and seems to idle better but it pops, it also sounds as if its missfiring when I press more than 10% throttle.
