Default car sounds funny with 59300 cam

has the zex 59300 cam made anybody's valves extremely loud? I have adjusted my valves twice trying to get it not to sound like a diesel truck, but it still isn't working. I know that the cam increases the noise a little, but I didn't know it was this much. Anyone else's do this?

Increased valvetrain noise from that cam is pretty normal. Hell, even with my Skunk2 Stage 1, I sounded like a diesel, also. Kind of embarassing. The valve lash and installation was all correct, too. At one point it was abnormally loud, so I had to readjust the valves again (#1 intake and #3 exhaust were way out of spec).

the 59300 is a loud cam... infinatenexus has it, and it was loud as hell for a while until he adjusted the valves twice, it's still a bit noisy, but better than it was before.

Check my sig.

I think the ZEX/COMP cams have sharp ramp angles, with no provisions for quieting. I was concerned that the cam was too hard on my valvetrain, so I pulled it. I recommend performance valves, springs and retainers for use with the 53900 cam.

On the dyno, my tuner found the engine gave the best numbers at +5, if I remember correctly. (It was 5 months ago.) Even when he advanced it more, the numbers didn't drastically change; it was only showing like a 1/2 hp gain. So he left it at +5 and then moved on to the VAFC. And that's when we learned my engine wasn't as strong as it should be. . . . Anyway, hope that helps.

Cams regardless of what kind will always make a great difference in tone and sound

yea the reason I didn't go with skunk2 is because they are $$$ and i've been hearing some bad **** about gude stuff...although I'd like to try their bullfrog cam. I kinda wish I had gone with a custom grind from exospeed though. I hear they are the ****.

Everything I remember about the zex/comp cams is that 59100 is for stock valvetrain and the 59300 is highly recommended to be used with their valvetrain.

Yeah, I adjusted the valves after the cam install (of course) and then a few hundred miles afterwards on my tuner's advice. Then I had my setup dyno tuned and then re-adjusted the valves a few days later. And that's when the #1 intake and #3 exhaust valves were totally out of spec. I mean, I could probably have stuck my pinky finger in where the feeler gauge goes. All the others were good, though.

I no longer have the cam anymore, though. I sold it and my Skunk2 cam gear to another H-T member. He had good results from it with a dyno sheet and everything. Not sure if he has tuned anything. I think he only put it through runs, no tuning.
