car is slow to warm up
i have a 94 cx i picked it up because it need rings, i replaced the rings the car runs great except that it takes a little bit to warm up. i have replaced the thermostat, didnt help, i have gone over all my coolant hoses and they are all hooked up right. when i got the car it had a radiator for an automatic, its bigger, but mines a manual i put cardboard in front of it which helped a little but it just takes to long to warm up. i think the fitv needs to be cleaned it has the smallest idle up and down, but as soon as i turn on the air or turn on lights it goes away. its gotta be bypassing the thermostat somewhere...but where any help would be great.
oh i dont know if it matters but i put a 16 valve head, intake and throttle body on as well

How do you know the car is not warm?
Is the temp guage correct?

let the car sit in the garage (if you have one) for 20 min and see what happens...it might just be really cold outside that's y ur temp is still real low....my gsr takes a little bit to warm up if it's cold out side...the temp tends to drop just a little bit once i start driving if it's super cold could out side then comes back up....

my guage works fine there is nothing wrong with it, my car warms up all the way but, it take forever, and once it gets all the way turning on the heat cools it off to much

Re: (itsmejto)
i live in Columbia sc. it takes my car roughly ten minuets to heat up in 45 degree weather at idle. i drive a ls integra. as im driving in the cold weather after it is warmed up all the way. the gauge drops a little bit, like stand outside in the cold. then run. u will get colder because of the breeze you are getting. let your car warm up without driving and see how long it takes. if i don't let my car warm up and just drive off it takes it about 15 minutes to warm up to the right temp.

Re: (96integraG3)
that sounds about right...my car if i drove it with out letting it warm up it would take 30ish to warm up, with out turning the heat on.

Does the idle go down to normal? Ignore the heat gauge for a minute, consider it warmed up when it idles low, is it still an issue?
I'm just going at it from the angle I know not all gauges read the same temperatures at the same spot on the gauge... Iono could be a thermostat too.

may still be the guage
Remember the time when I hade same exact problem on 94 Toy Tercel. It acted like it's taking forever to warm up. Tried cardboard trick but then it started overheating on the long runs on the highway. Silly me tired everything along with changing thermostat twice. And as soon as i picked up different cluster from junky everything went back to normal. And no i didnt put my finghaz to the cluster before the problem occured. It was just some natural inefficiency of temp gauge .
Borrow a cluster from your buddy and make sure this is not your problem.

I agree. your thermostat is dead.
here's a way to find out: when you're temp gauge shows that it's warm and you drive, does it drop to dead-cold again? once it does that, your car may go into fast-idle mode thinking that it's cold again.
how do your hoses feel after driving around for 20mins? are they hard or cold at all?
put in a brand new thermostat. you never specified if you changed the thermostat to a brand new one...don't put one in that you were told was good...just to be sure.
