Car shut off today... Now wont start! (2000 Civic EX)
Hey All,
On my way to friends house today and my car shut off about a block before I got there and I pretty much coasted the rest of the way. (lucky I was so close)
Anyway, the car is cranking but it's not catching. I hear it turning over but it's not actually starting. First thought was timing belt but we took off the valve cover to make sure the timing belt was Ok and everything checked out. Checked all the fuses and everything looks good also! Battery seems to be good also!
Anyone have any suggestions? I am at a loss and cant get much help because of the holiday weekend!
TIA

What he said. Igniters and/or coils are common on Hondas.

Check for spark.. check for fuel. Also, check your ground wires. I once had my car not start because of a stupid ground wire.

Re: Car shut off today... Now wont start! (NetRyderz)
Thanks. I havent had any work done to it recently so not sure what can be going on. Of course, because of the holiday, there's not too many people I can call. Fuses look good but I dont seem to be getting spark. Any ideas about what that could be? TIA
Also, Friend took off the valvle cover to check the timing belt. We didn't have a torque wrench so just tightened them in sequence by hand. Does anyone know if that would be OK or if I should have it retightened with a torque wrench?
TIA Everyone and Happy 4th!

like everyone else has been saying, check for spark first and for most. then check for fuel. you mentioned you checked all of your fuses, you checked everyone single one or just the ones that you thought were essential to starting the car? keep an eye out for the ACG fuse, that one will give symptons of a bad fuel pump/main relay. gl

Re: (Do_Ster)
yea my guess would be spark. Take the distributor cap off and see if the spark is arching if theres any spark at all. Or replace the distributor if you got a spare one layin around

Well, I just checked the fuses that I thought were essential to starting the car. Any other fuses you suggest? Thanks again!
Also, any input on the valve cover?
TIA

I would definely say igniter. They always go bad on honda's just pick one up from the dealer or pick up a new distirbutor cause that sounds like ur problem

Thanks all! Heading over there now to check it out. Does anyone know where I can get a engine diagram online?
Also, what should I do about the valve cover?
Thanks!
