Car shifted fine before, but now its a chore to get it in 1st. HELP!
I have a d16y8 in my 97 civic hb. the car is an auto to manual conversion.
Ok my mini me swap decided to spin a rod(210k on bottom) and i had to put a new motor in. Before i took everything out the transmission shifted fine. and i was using HMT.
then i swapped everything to a newer d16y8 block and when i went to start it up the transmission wouldnt shift into 1st unless you forced it. then i turned the car off and it shifted fine into all gears. so i started it back up and it was a bitch to get it into 1st and almost as hard to get it into 2nd then 3-5 are fine. I used Penzoil Syncromesh this time.
What could be wrong? could magically my syncros gone bad?

Re: (pumpkyn)
clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder is bad.
Replace both, cause if one went bad, it caused the other to work harder and wear itself out prematurely. You'll end up replacing the second part soon due to failure as well.

its a new slave cylinder when i did the at-mt swap about 5,000 miles ago. and the clutch master is only a year old.
but i mean how can it go from being totally fine before then 2 weeks later and its crap?

Re: (pumpkyn)
i'm taking it everything was fine before the swap. i would suggest going to the honda manual tranny fluid. i know, many people are going to rave the pennzoil, but i use honda's mtf on my b16 and never had a problem.
recently though, when i installed my a/c, the idle would raise alittle when the a/c was on, causing 1st gear to be alittle more rough. but i lowered the idle slightly and it solved the problem.
is the idle alittle high on the motor? try adjusting it and see what happens.

its weird it varies sometimes. sometimes it will idle at 1k then other times at about 300. and when i adjust it it idles at 1.2k then 750.
