I doubt it's the axles but check them anyway. Also, go over EVERY connection (motor mounts and torque mounts) between your engine and chassis.

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
Hi every1 im having a similar problem with my 1998 civic where it really shakes when moving off from standstill in 1st gear...
Iv recently replaced the cluth and flywheel but i still have the same old problem so that rules out the clutch and flywheel but iv taken it to the garage and had friends drive the car and it still shakes only in 1st gear. And the longer you drive the car (30mins) it gets worse. Iv also pulled away in 2nd without any shaking and reversing is fine aswell.
I really hope someone has the anwser out there as this is driving my bonkers now lol

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
Hi,
I am having the same problem with my 94 civic. The car sometimes shake when I take off from first or reverse, and I also have the small rattle sound when the car is at idle. Did anyone figure out the problem. Is it the transmission mounts?

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
Hey I have a Honda accord and it always shakes in first and second gear and when I give it gas. my friend said it could be the pressure plate. Any advice? I recently bought it from my sister and I don't think she has ever had the tired balanced could that also have anything to do with the shaking?

Try slipping the clutch in 2nd. It'll shake. Or start from a stop in 2nd. It'll shake more.
It's most likely a warped or hot spotted or contaminated flywheel.
Or its a puck type clutch. Or the clutch radial springs/wave springs are worn out.

Puck clutches chatter. It's just how they roll. Why do you have a puck clutch? Lots of hp?
If you did it to make your car feel like a race car....well...it does. It chatters and shakes and makes noise. Just like a real race car

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
Well...maybe your old flywheel was warped or spotted. Or maybe you have an oil leak that leaked on your new stuff.
But...I think that your old fly wheel was warped/spotted...and your new setup just chatters by design.
Is it a chatter while you're still slipping the clutch to go? What's done to the car?

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
You almost definitely have clutch chatter, BTW. You wouldn't have that with a full faced clutch with a good flywheel surface.

Anybody find the culprit? I have the same issue in my 96 civic. Hops taking off in first. Stops doing so after about 20 minutes of driving..

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
To make it easy,
-Clutch deposits on flywheel
-distored flywheel surface
-oil on clutch/flywheel from leaky main seal or other leak
-grease flung onto flywheel surface.
-type of clutch
-motor mounts
-driver error.
More description of your issue helps to narrow it down. Also...inspection of these items.

Had the same issue in first gear in a 5spd 89 Camry DD of mine. Wound up being a distorted flywheel. Different car, same problem.

Re: Car shakes when releasing clutch in first gear
Same exact problem I am having on my car. Shudders like it's going to blow up when putting into first. After 15 minutes of driving, it's normal again. Only happens going into first gear and when I have not driven the car for over 12 hours. My oil levels are constant, axles and suspension are good, tires are good, brakes are good.. not sure what it is.
