car randomly dies
i have a 93 hatch with a b18b1 in it, sometimes my car will randomly die at idle, and not start back, i can turn the key over and back and prime the pump 2-3 times and it will run at idle for 10 secs+-...i have to get some starting fluid and spray the air filter for it to start

Re: car randomly dies
maybe its flooding...try starting it and then when it dies and wont start, open the throttle all the way and try to start it or take off the air filter and try to start it....
or maybe your spark isnt strong enough and your distributors going bad? i dont know but those are the first things i would check. |
Re: car randomly dies
check the injectors maybe its not getting enough fuel, also check plugs, wires, cap.
any cels? |
Re: car randomly dies
ive already replaced the fuel pump with a gsr pump...could it be a relay?? im lost any help is greatly appreciated

Re: car randomly dies
if the pump is priming i doubt, but check it as well.
pull the plugs, and look at them to see if its runing lean. my guess its not getting fuel or spark, when you spray starter fulid in it how long does run? any cels? |
Re: car randomly dies
i would say it sounds like a main relay. its up under the dash and they are notorious for going bad and being an itermitent problem.
do a h-t search for main relay |
Re: car randomly dies
I agree. If it starts with starting fluid, I would guess the main relay may be bad.

Re: car randomly dies
damn, i never even thought of the main realy, but i agree.

Re: car randomly dies
this is going to sound crazy but next time it wont start use your left foot to give the underside of the dash a kick. it should run after you do this.

Re: car randomly dies
Definently the main fuel relay, I had that exact same problem a couple years back and was starting my car with carb cleaner for a month before I found out what it was.

Re: car randomly dies
i figured it to be some sort of relay...thanks a bunch guys ...big help

Re: car randomly dies
what does your car idle at? I would adjust your idling screw, by unpluggin your IAC plug and set the idle at around 600rpm, then shut the car off, plug the IAC plug back in, reset the computer. Then check your main relay, i dont this we have a fuel problem here.
