Car Overheats after replacing thermostat

Car Overheats after replacing thermostat
i have a 97 civic ex with a HX motor, i replaced my thermostat yesterday at my job with one from Napa (Not OEM), every since then my temp gauge fluctuates and i have no pressure in my coolant system what so ever.
Its weird because i can be cruising at 2500rpm at 60 mph and the temp reads right below the red and as soon as i drop it to 2nd gear i hit around 5200 rpm and the temp gauge drops down to normal and ive let the temp gauge spike and immediatly pulled the rad cap to find no pressure at all (Bottom Hose Cold).
Im gonna be puting my Original thermo back in tommorow to see if it fixes the problem but i was wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

Bleeding the cooling system may take 20-30 minutes.
1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.
2) Push/turn the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat. Fan need not be on.
3) Follow the directions in the diagram below

ive done all of that, and it still wouldnt explain why i have no pressure at all...so im gonna blame it on the thermostat being open to wide...which kinda explains why it only rides at its normal temp when at any rpm over 5k

took to long to run the heat, it would literally take about 10miles of driving b4 the it blew any kind of heated air.
Its not the cap because i didnt have this problem until i put the new thermo in, now my fan doesnt kick on at all

how long did you bleed it? almost everytime I have done it, it has taken 20-30 min... I almost gave up a few times, cause it looked like it was done, but then there were a few bubbles left....

HOLD IT!
You say your fan doesn't kick on at all now?
Isn't the fan temp switch grounded on the thermostat housing (which has to be removed to replace the thermostat)
Check that ground!

Re: Car Overheats after replacing thermostat
its probably the thermostat staying open and the fact he still has airpockets in his system
