Default Faded rough window trim?

The door trim at the bottom of the windows is all faded and rough. It is almost turning a chrome color.

What can I do to fix this trim? I checked online and was unable to locate a replacement trim.

In the FAQ there's a link to common online stores for OEM replacements. If OEM is not what your looking for, you can always take them off and paint them...or put a strip of black electrical tape if you just want a quick "cosmetic" fix.

I may just pull them off and paint them. Looks pretty easy to remove once the B-pillar trim is off.

Anyone know of a good DIY for painting the window trim? The two trim pieces each cost $56 for my 00 Civic EX coupe.

It should be like painting any other part. pull them off, scuff them, then primer, then paint.

The original seems to be a dull black color. What's an appropriate type of paint? Any special type of primer for the scuffed metal? Spray paint or brush? I obviously don't know much about car painting.

My friend got a fresh set a few months ago and it appeared to be more of a rubberized coating than a paint. It sort of makes sense as the ones on my car are brittle and peeling off in little chunks. If it doesn't matter too much to you just scuff them as "untitled001" stated and pick your color of choice. If you want to take it a step further you can try to find a local powdercoater or rhinolining place and see what they have that's comparable to the original stuff (last time I went to my local powdercoater they did offer some sort of rubberized spray on coating).

To be honest I don't see the harm in picking a quality spray paint that is the approximate color match. It will certainly be better than the faded chrome look. I've painted my wipers with just some black paint and I don't think it contrasts with the black trim pieces.

Wonder what it would look like painted with the undercoating/bedliner type material? It's a dull plastic type finish also.
