Car not starting after swap.
Ok, so I am in desperate need of some help. I have a 1992 Honda civic LX, I took my old motor out in place of a built D16Z6. I ran into some problems with not having spark, I finally fixed that and then my fuel pump went out. Put a new one in today. Tried to start it and it is hesitant to start...It will make it want to turn over then just stop, and try again. The positive ground wire on the starter gets red hot and starts to smoke after awhile. I am getting fuel and spark but its just not firing. I believe I have the spark plugs right. The 1st one goes on the "C" terminal right? and the cylinder order is 4-3-2-1 correct? So my question is why do you think its no starting? Thanks for the help guys!

ok, so I have I searched the forums and I still can't find out why it would not start. I have fuel and I have spark...It seems almost like the starter might be shorting out...how would I check? I don't have an extra starter to throw on there and try.

Re: (walsh22)
Upside down? How in the hell would that even make sense? It only bolts on one way man..and the spark plugs are in the correct holes, thx for the help though.

"C" terminal? also i hope your "ground wire" isn't positive. i understand typos, just want to make sure this is one before i suggest anything for you to try. also who built the motor?

the ground is not positive, sorry, its the positive terminal from the battery to the starter that is getting hot. A reputable guy around my town built my motor, he has built tons of honda motors, valve timing is correct, he set it before he gave me the motor, the cam gear marks were even with the block when we lined up the timing belt.
