car no start, loosened gas cap, car started...?
alright i went to start my car, and no joy. i tried for about 2 min. right after i stopped cranking the last time, i got out, loosened the gas cap, and there was a whooooosh sound. i immediately got in and the car started right up. i'm in VA and it was pretty hot today. i read about something like this from someone else and it was recommended they change their main relay. however there was about a 10 second delay between the last try with no joy and when it did start. i think it's impossible for that to be a coincidence and i think the problem was there was maybe too much pressure in my tank...? anyone have any ideas. it's on a 94 del sol si and this is the first time this has happened.

there should be a sort of bleeder to let air in, maybe thats clogged causing there to be too much pressure, unless its connected to a one way valve where i have no clue what then. how much gas was in it?

You obviously just read the thread on vapor lock... if not....

If you ask me it's more than possible... but probobly a problem in the fuel system...
If there's more pressure in the tank then the pump is capable of producing obviously the pump won't work properly...

Hey, I just bought a 93 ex, and I am having the same problem. I drove it to work no problem, but a few hours later it wouldn't start, I loosened the gas cap...whoooooooosh...it started right up. I may try the relay thing ...hopefully it fixes it....

Just out of curiosity how do you think an electical relay is going to affect the pressure in your tank?
to replace the relay it needs to be failing... ie NOT triggering the pump to start...

the tank was full when it happened. and i dont think i have a relay problem. but i have no idea why the car wouldnt start, scientifically speaking... wouldnt the fuel pump still be able to pull fuel if the tank has a lot of pressure in it? anyone has any ideas?

how can i check if the pump is priming? i guess i can hook up a fuel pressure gauge or maybe loosen the fuel line at the filter and see if fuel comes out... the problem is the car starts fine now so i'm sure it's priming.
