Default Car SHAKES and is making a "put put" noise... Fuel pump dead ??

I finally put my add in the auto-trader, and I'm getting full of people wanting to see my car, and when they come over too see it, my car has trouble starting.

this only started at the beginning of the week, when I turn the ignition it starts but the whole car shakes and it makes a "put put" sound from the back of the exhaust

but today, when the guy started it, it died right away(3 times), he had to give it lots of gas.

the car runs fine and stops shaking and putting after about 10 seconds or driving,

so what do you think it is ? I'm guessing it's the fuel pump, but wtf do I know.

No it is not the fuel pump... From your explanation it seems to me that one cylinder fails to start... that can be due to weak battery...

after 5-10 seconds when engines spins enough to start the fourth cylinder, it starts to work like nothing happened... right???

The following can be the cause:
I will put a little mark were I think your problem is...

- weak battery ***
- worn out spark plugs ***
- worn out spark cables ***
- "dirty" fuel injectors (if you haven't replaced the fuel filter for a long time)
- dirty fuel filter
- faulty distributor
- poor fuel quality
- water in the fuel
- weak starter motor (due to weak battery)
- unknown object or fluid in the fuel system (i.e. cleaning-oil from K&N filter can get into the injectors if too much is applied after cleaning the filter - injectors will fail to work)

My suggestion is: first replace the spark plugs... then if the problems doesn't go away, try with spark plug cables... if it still occurs, replace the battery...

It would be great if someone you know has Honda so you can try all this without buying new parts... despite the fact it is not so expensive, it is not very wise to buy something that won't solve your problem...

I hope this helps a bit...

I own 2 hatch

I have a new battery (1 month old) and new spark plugs and wires from last year.

I think it`s the original distributor from 92 though

Yes, you could have said that in your first post about your car smokin...

And about replacing the head gasket... if you do not know what you are doing and have no tools, you better not do it...

You have to take off timing belt, distributor, valve cover, exhaust mani, unscrew the head, take it off, apply the new gasket with cleaning the head and the block of course then screw the head back in but all screws must tightened EQUALY... adjust timing and you're ready to go... all in all about 6-7 hours of hard work if you know what you are doing and have some help...

Not a very nice job if you ask me... better leave it to someone who knows what to do...

Why would you swap the head??? Is the head broken???

I doubt the head is broken cos probably your car wouldn't start at all... My suggestion is DO NOT DRIVE LIKE THAT you can harm your motor much much more than it is harmed now...

Just buy a Honda OEM gasket and take to some GOOD MECHANIC to replace it... it costs aprox. $30 and work shouldn't be more than $200-$300

I brought it to a mecanic, and he quote me 1300$ obviously there ******* me over. ther charging me 150$ jsut to flush my fluids.

my teal car is the one that is broken and that I'm getting rid of, but I can't sell it with a broken head gasket. I have a red car in perfect condition in storage.

since I'm planning on swapping it to a b18b this summer anyways. why not use what ever I can use from it.

I jsut want to spend as less money as possible.

actually, if anybody nkow how I can get around or have a quike= fix for the head gasket, that would be good. it only needs to last about 2-3 weeks.

I know it's shaddy, but I got fucked over when I bough that car too

I'm selling the car !! why would I pay 1300$ if I can apply myslef and do it for free ? I have a second engine in perfect condition at my disposal and some good tools (no air though)

so why not ?
