Default car keeps idiling fast and slow

my 92 civic runs rough and keeps idiling fast and slow and sometimes hesetates for a second before starting. I already changed the cap rotor and coils last year. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

that or the pcv valve, the one thing many over loko but can also cause this problem.

the idle air control valve is on the back of the intake manifold.

would a defective idle air control valve cause hesitant start. I have a new starter but when I turn the engine over it hesitates for a second before starting.

yes, a map sensor can cause this along with hesitation while driving.

lets keep in mind here, he hasn't said anything about CEL. when a map or IAVC goes out it'll throw a CEL. but if a FICis clooged or clogged PCV, no CEL and will cuse these symptoms.

dude, what the hell are you talking about? you shouldn't start your car with the a/c on.

it is possible that you have a bad i.a.c.valve AND a weak battery. a bad starter will usually stay engaged longer than it should rather than hesitating. or there's always the possibility that its hesitating because its cold, or maybe you were low on gas.

in the automotive business, the technical term is Malfunction Indicator Lamp, or M.I.L.

no prob. its just useful to know because most service manuals and troubleshooting guides will refer to it as a MIL, not a CEL.
