Car just turned off while driving???
hey, today i was driving home from school and i heard a small noise and all of a sudden my car just turned off. I don't think it was the started because it's never had any trouble at all starting up. When i try to start it it just sits there and tries, you can hear it tryin to turn over but it doesn't. It seems almost like the engine isn't gettin enough spark to turn over, so i thought it could be the alternator but i'm not sure. It's been running really rich for awhile, but i don't think that has anything to do with it. Anyone got any extra info on this possibly?

i had the same problem a few times with my first car. It was the alternator, it just turned the car off and wouldnt start. Started up though when jumped just fine. Do any lights dim or anything before it shuts off?

Ignition control module in the Dizzy. Check for spark, it should be nice and blue. I had something similar happen to me before, just running along and BOOM shuts itself off.

Happened to me before.. It was the ignitor in the distributor..Replaced it and it was fine.
Check your fuel pump fuse. Are you getting fuel? Is it priming? That's usually the first place I check if my car dies..

Dirty Fuel Injectors possibly? Sometimes when you run the tank on "E" and get shitty gas you get little particles and stuff into the gas tank. My car did the same thing before. I was doing like 40mph and it just turned off and I almost crashed my ****. Then when I tried to start it would just turn over. I would just run the old gas out of the tank, throw some "fuel injector" cleaner in and a full tank of 92 and see if you run into the problem again. This is just my opinion/suggestion!

Re: (I8ayellowcrayon)
thanks for the respones...... tomorrow i'll check the fuse and i'll talk it over with a friend that works at a car shop, i think the dizzy makes more sense then the alternator because i've been in a car when the alternator went out and it didn't seem anything like what happened to my car, so i'll talk it over with my friend at the shop and he'll probly know wtf is goin on, but i'll let you guys know when i figure out exactly what's goin on too.

Re: (j0nptw)
today i looked at it more and i couldn't find the fuel pump fuse? is it tied in with another fuse or is it an in-line fuse or something? the mechanic thought that it most likely had to do with fuel somewhere.

The fuel pump fuse is tricky. It took me a while to figure it out.
Here is a diagram that you can use to located the fuel pump fuse. It's not on the fuse box diagram for some reason as far as I know... But I hope this helps..

Re: (cchaves)
My bet is the distributor...
It happened to my old civic one time. One day it just wouldn't turn over, after testing a few things I figured out it was the distributor, replaced it and it ran like a champ...

just happened to my buddy 2 days ago.. what octane are you using? his car was running on 94 and everytime he would try to start it.. it wouldnt turn over, and the few times it did it stayed on for like 2 seconds so he couldnt even try to get it going... make sure your not running too rich

I'm pretty sure it all narrows down to the ignitor or fuel pump. You still haven't told us if youre fuel pump is priming. I would go back and start from there.
Or if you think it's the ignitor, just take apart your dist. cap and check it out..
