Car floods after sitting for a while, sign of bad FPR?
96 civic, d16y7
As the title implies, when my car sits for more than 5 or 6 hours, it sputters immediately after startup. It's especially bad after sitting overnight or longer. There are instances when I have to hold the peddle to the floor to get it to start. Once to idle smooths I let off the gas and it runs fine. I'm pretty sure it is flooding immediately. Strong smell of gas.. I have noticed it slowly getting progressively worse. The car has 230000 miles on it. Could it be a bad fuel pressure regulator? The car runs perfectly otherwise once the initial sputter works itself out.
Anyone else experience this before?
Any suggestions are welcome. I will likely have a mechanic look at it eventually too, but you guys know how mechanics are.. I trust the people more on here most of the time.
Thanks in advance guys/gals.

if possible, check the pressure at the fuel rail as soon as the car is shut off and after a few hours. maybe someone can chime in and give you some numbers to expect or post the number you find and see what others say about them. another possiblity could be a leaky/sticking fuel injector, perhaps if the sticking was minimal you might not notice it after the initial start up.

Could be an issue with the temp sensor. I had a friend wire the o2 signal to the temp sensor at the ecu and vice versa...one is red/white and the other is white/red lol. Same symptoms you're describing.

I have literally noticed it getting worse over the past year and a half. It isn't temperature related. It seems to me like fuel is leaking into the cylinders when it sits. The longer it sits, the more fuel leaks in.
Keep the suggestions rolling. Thanks for the input so far.

To be honest, I ended up selling the car. And I don't know what the real solution would be. Sorry I'm not able to help you.
