Car died on me today.
So i was driving home from school today and my car like sputtered for second then drove for a few seconds then died on me...check engine light came on..so i started cranking it but it wouldnt start...so i take the keys out of the ignition and then try it again. it starts right up like nothing happened? thing is that my tach ***** up around 4k+ rpms. any ideas on what this could be?

Alternator could be on its way out.
Get a voltmeter.
Hook to battery and see if you read 12 volts
Start car and see if it jumps to 14 volts. If so, Alternator good.

yea i have a voltemeter in my car, its always above 14 unless im pumping them bass notes! haha, jp yea, but the voltemeter goes low when im "bassing" but other than that. its good. could it be my tach?

Your tach wouldn't draw that much power.

no no im saying. my stock tach...its acts up all the time after3k rpms...could that be cause by my distributor? thus causing my car to bog and die?

That would be my guess! If you have a spare coil laying around, throw it in and see if that solves your problem? I'll put a wooden nickel on the coil!

its ither the coil, roter, distributer cap or all. take of your cap and see if there is any build up on it if there is scratch it off and go get a new one. if your coil is going or is gone then i doubt it would let you rev up to four grand let alone keep running.

there is no more code. but i took off the cap, and un screwed the rotor and pulled it off and got to those connectors i was talking about. i cleaned them off and plugged them back in and my tach works like a dream now.

good job...you probley just saved yourself a few hundred bucks from going to the honda dealership
