car cranks but doesn't start
hey yall. i have a 92 hatch with a 95 ls motor swap. i sometimes have a problem starting my car. when the engine is cold, car cranks and starts up fine. but if the engine is hot, it cranks and it does not start. this only happens SOMETIMES though. when the car doesn't want to start, after cranking it a few times, it is usually followed by a strong scent of gas. i changed the spark plugs and spark plus wires, but to no avail. so now i'm thinking maybe there's something wrong with my fuel filter or my fuel injectors? any thoughts or advice? thanks for the help

i haven't changed it yet. if it is a faulty filter, could it have damaged my injectors as well? this problem has been on-and-off for about 3 to for months btw.

Re: car cranks but doesn't start
It's the main relay. Its right up on the drivers side of the dash. Take off the fuse cover then the pastic then the metal knee bolster thing. Look to the left of the body and you will see a relay. It has a brown plug going in to it. I can't remember all the wire colors but I know one is a thicker guage wire thats yellow with a green stripe. It's held in by 1 10mm bolt. If you can't find it I'll post up a picture tomorrow.

But try and get one from a j/y, they are $50-80 new for the main relay. Do you have a multimeter? I can tell you how to check your relay to see if its good.
start with that before poping money on something that might be good.

try this:
on the times when it won't start, crank the engine over, and while it's cranking, Hit the underside of the dash (below the relay) with your hand.
Most always, that will make the car start. It's cheaper than buying another relay.
