Default car bogging

I've got a B16B swapped hatch with a bogging/ loss of power issue.

I was cruising on the highway when my car started to bog and loose power. If i kept the throttle stready it would continue to bog & lose power, but when I gave it more gas it would stopp sputtering. It would do this for minutes at a time then just randomly go away.

It was VERY hot & humid that day so I thought that might have had something to do with it or that maybe I just had a bad batch of shitty gas. The problem persisted the next day. I had planned on doing a mild tune up anyways, so I picked up a new battery & spark plugs. When I removed the old battery I noticed I had a loose ground so I cleaned it up & installed the new battery. My spark plugs were also white so I must be running lean. I made sure the new plugs were gapped correctly & installed them. The problem is still there.

My first thought in all of this was that my o2 sensor is bad but I don't want to just buy a new one & hope that solves my problem. I also plan on replacing the fuel filter, hopefully tonight. My secondary o2 sensor is capped off but all that does is monitor your cat & would not affect performance, if i'm not mistaken.

I've searched & found it could be a number of things, anywhere from a bad tps, vaccum leak, clogged/ faulty injector, to bad timing or problems in the distributor.
I checked the fuel pressure & it's at 48 psi.

Anything else I should check? I'd like to narrow this down as much as possible before I start replacing things What should I go after first?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

i would say it could be a bad 02 sensor...try double checking your timing also but i dont think thats the problem...it also could be a bad IACV...sorry bro just like everyone else said, it could be numerous things

I have the same problem, only my problem happens when you decide to step on it, it bogs for a few seconds, like as if it's not getting enough fuel, then catches...?

My buddy had that problem, and believe it or not his plug wire somehow came up a lil and wasn't touching the spark plug. So after pushing that on all the way and test driving, that fixed it.??? Don't ask me how that happened but it did.

Thanks for all the replies thus far. I bought this car with the swap from a friend a year ago. It's ran great ever since. The only mods I've done to it are suspension upgrades. It actually acted up the same way shortly after buying it, but I changed the plugs & it's been fine ever since.

Teg-96, that actually may have been the case the first time this happend. I'm running MSD wires so they should be pretty reliable, but maybe they're just old or one of the connectors isn't connecting good. I'll throw on some other wires & see what happens. I've never had a problem starting it & if it were the cap & rotor or something you'd think it would have acted up somewhere along the line. Could it possibly be the coil? I don't know...

Hopefully i'll have time to replace the fuel filter tomorrow, and I may end up buying an o2 sensor right away. Anyone know where I can get one for a good price? Should I just get one for a 2000 civic si then?

I changed;

-fuel filter
-spark plugs
-spark plug wires
-distributor
-cap
-rotor
-fresh oil change
-oil filter
-replaced stock air filter for a short ram

....and is still having this problem as we speak?

So maybe it could be your 02 sensor (and most probably mine to)

first try unplugging the vtec plugs and see if the bogging stops, another question does it only bog when cruising on highway speeds?

What do you mean the "vtec plugs"...the solenoid & pressure switch? It bogs at random speed & rpms.
As far as an o2 sensor goes, I can use on for a 2000 civic si, correct?

Problem solved. It was a vacuum leak on the intake manifold. Went & bought a rubber nipple for 11 cents, capped it off, reset the ecu & it's running great now. Funny how a pinhole leak can screw everything up .

Thanks for the help everyone!

I just heard a little hiss, then when I put my finger on the leak it changed my idle. You could try using carb cleaner or something.
