take a hammer and gently bang on the end of the axle where it goes into the hub. dont hit it too hard or you will mushroom it. if it still doesnt move than you're doin somethin wrong. try takin it out and puttin it back in and try to wiggle it a little while hitting it. that always works for me

I notice he didn't specify which side won't go in. I have had trouble with both ends befor...
If its the transmission side, remove the new C clip from your axle splines, and replace it with the old one. The old one should allow the axle to pop in easy. use a fair amount of grease on all the touching surfaces.
If its the hub side, tap on the rotors HUB (not the rotors smooth surface) with a rubber mallat. Once it's in far enough, put the hub nut on it. Once you get it threaded, you can press the axle into position by tightening down the nut.

i read your thread title and thought to myself: "I hate when that happens!"
my solution is to take a hammer and smack it around until it goes in... that's after wiggling it in as much as possible, of course. if it's the huib side smack the axle hub until you can get the nut on the spline, and then just pull it through. either way, brute force is going to get it done.

force is something you might need, but not excessive. First thing you should always do (ever since I started doing it I have never had problems getting an axle in or need to use anything more than 1-3pushes) is if it's a used axle replace the ring w/ a new one and either way new/used grease around the ring and center it. Grease will help keep the ring centered and not stick it out on one side (usually down).

the stupidest thing you can do it hit it with a hammer if the splines arent lined up. what you need to do on the tranny side is to just slip it in a little, like the first click in, then firmly grab the axle with both hands and give it a blunt push into the tranny. it will either pop in or it wont, if it doesnt just rotate it a little and try again. on the hub end, you just have to apply pressure and rotate it until the splines are lined up. then i usually tap the hub a little until i can get the axle nut threading on. then you can just use the nut to suck the rest of the axle thru the hub
