Cant figure this out... help please!
I have a 2000 Civic Ex.
Every time a accelerate, especially when I'm goin up a hill, my e-brake light on the gauge cluster comes on even though the e-brake is not engaged. What could be causing this... is it a short in wiring?
I couldnt figure it out so I took the center armrest console out and uplugged the wiring clip from the e-brake sensor thinking that this would make it to where my e-brake light wouldnt be able to come on whether it is engaged or not.
The light doesnt come on when my e-brake is engaged but it still comes on when I'm accelerating especialy up a hill... but as soon as a let of the gas it goes away.
HELP PLEASE!

that brake light comes on for more than one reason, it comes on if the parking brake is pulled, or if your brake fluid is low. when you go up a hill, the fluid is the resovoir lsoshes back, and the switch int he resovoir cap is tripped, check your fluid leavel, and then figur out why its low, is it low from brake wear, is it low from a leak? is it low from it leaking formt he master back intot he vacuum of the booster?

Thanks man your a life saver. I had no idea that that could be it but it makes sense now. I just went out and checked my brake fluid and it was all the way down to the MIN level so i filled it up to that MAX level with DOT3 brake fluid like it says to in the manual. If this happens again then I guess it means I have a leak or worn pads. I will keep an eye on it and if not then great and if so then I will fix the problem. Thanks again. BTW... I hooked the wiring clip back up to the ebrake sensor so that works now.

Just to let you know the problem was my pads. The driver side pad has now worn all the way down and my brakes are caliper against rotor which is an awful noise and no stopping power. The other side is near the same thing. So I took the rotors and had them remachined and turn them and replaced the pads with OEM pads and painted my calipers to match my car(VSM) while I was at it! Thanks again.
