when i first got my 2000 si, when i got on the gas hard i could feel the vtec kicking in. now it just feels like a constant acceleration. is there something wrong with it? someone help me out thanks jeff

Uh0h....u called it "vtech".

yes, your "vtec" can stop working.
If its a 2000 si, I wouldnt think its a wiring problem, so check your oil level first.
Then will take the next step on checking for a clogged solenoid.

Low oil = vtec won't engage.

Check your oil bud. For further reference, use VTEC, not VTECH or you're going to get flamed.

mmmm i've noticed recently on my 00 si when i first start up and when its still a little cold my vtec wouldn't kick in.. but after it warms up a little while it kicks in.. but yet also when its still a little cold vtec in first gear wouldn't kick in but in second it would.. then i would stop.. start again and in first gear it would kick in.. well it needs a oil change too anyway

Your vtec cam may be broken! you may want to get this checked out.

Please pop your hood next time and check the spelling of vtec, as a matter of fact, you can look on the side of your car. THere are a few variables that determine weather or not vtec will enguage. It cant "go bad" it either will work or it will not.

What I can recollect about vtec rules of enguagement:
1. knock sensor-if it is bad/broken/malfunctioning, or if you have bad gas
2. oil pressure-if your oil is low, or there is lack of pressure
3. temperature sensor-if your engine/components are not up to operating temp
4. speed sensor, you must be going 20mph before the computer says "yes"

Your not supposed to beat on your car when it's still cold that's why your VTEC is not working. Honda made it so the car needs to warm up before the ECU will allow VTEC to engage.

No, it's supposed to feel like that. You're not supposed to "feel" anything.

this is after it does warm up for bout 4mins, even on warm days 60-70 i let it sit for a min

he's probably right, but make sure your wiring didnt short. Are you throwing codes?? how about getting your ecu looked at.

i'm not so sure about that...you're supposed to be able to hear it...skunk2nr's dyno vid is a good indicator of that...

maybe this guy is in alaska and drives where the engine is always below 120 degrees?

Hearing and feeling are two completely different things.

Ideally, the engagement point is supposed to be set to make the transition as seamless as possible. You don't want to "feel" anything.

yep these 2 sum it up...don't beat on your car while its cold...and please dont take out the thermostat in your car if you dont need to!, like many people do thinking that it will help the car because it will keep it cooler
