Can you contain rust spots with clear nail polish?
I heard somewhere that you can take clear nail polish and cover rust spots with it, thereby stopping any chance of the rust spreading...is this true?

NO..
Rust spreads internally... the only way to stop rust is to COMPLETELY remove any rusted material and re-paint...
even then chances are it has spread to parts you can't see and will start up again eventually... RUST SUCKS...
there are some paints that allegedly prevent rust or convert it... por-15 is one... there are some others too... I've used por-15 as has a friend with a 70 impala... both of us are happy with the results... but it's a heavy paint and needs a top coat of another paint if it's exposed to UV light (daylight).

In fairness though it will slow the progress of the rust dramatically...
simply waxing it will also have the same effect...
I'd recomend sanding down till it's bare metal and painting though... if it goes through have a shop weld in some sheet metal to patch it.
Request that they butt weld it though...NOT overlap it... if they over lap it it will probobly rust even worse again...

Oh...because I am getting the car painted in December and there are a couple parts of the car that have dime sized rust spots...none of them on the outside, they're all in the door jam area and in the spare tire area.
I put nail polish on them today to seal them, and while the rust is spreading a little bit, it's not growing much at all. I am going to have one of them taken care of this week as it is the worst, and the others I am going to wait until December.
I am just worried about having to trash the car due to rust. That won't happen will it?

I'm half import half domestic so to me rust is just part of the deal...
There is just about NO such thing as unfixable rust... other than the dreaded frame rot... which isn't half as much a concern with a unibody car as it was with chassis on frame cars.
