Default can stock 13" steelies hold the type r power?

im planning on getting a 98 spec type r for my pos 94 cx. it has everything stock including its 13" steelies. the question is am i going to be spinning every gear if i dont upgrade my rims and tires? the most i would buy is maybe 14" steelies for better quality tires.

if u're gonna upgrade do it right! either some lightweight 15" or 16" with some falken azenis or bridgestone s03's

Thats what I would suggest...

Protege wheels and Azenis would be an ideal setup.

A set of 14" steelies for $50 and some azenis sports for another $220 and your good to go.......All for under $300. If you drive it hard you are going t spin the tires anyway....

Imo 4th gen Prelude wheels (the ones that look like crx Si wheels, but with sharper edges) look pretty nice and are 14", you could look into those.

Dont put tims or noticably good tires on it. cause the other person could be like " What the hell is under that hood that he has 300 tires on his car"?

Another cheap option for you is to go with 2001 ex steelies which are 15" and you have a much larger and cheaper array of tires to choose from. A clean set of 15" steelies are normally between $50-$75. Then you have a lot more options in tires to choose from.... Thats what I'm running right now with azenis. Tire rack has s03's on sale right now for 70 something dollars....

the size of the rims don't necessarily matter that much - it is the width of the tires

look into getting some 14" hx wheels if you want to save some money - there are a lot of 185/60/14 high performance tires on the market that will fit them and give you good traction

the best option would be to go with 15x6.5 wheels, stock gsr, rota - there are a lot of cheap options out there and the array of tires available for that size wheel is incredible

i had the stock 13's on my civic when i first got my b16 swap. i spun some in second with occasional chirp in 3rd. they were really shitty tires though. if u just bought some better tires i think you would be alright, but i dont know of any good tires for 13's.

14 w/ azenis sounds good

why would you say that? the contact patch is the same size.

that is my point - a 185/60/13 tire and a 185/60/14 tire has the same contact patch - but the size of the wheel is different - hence why the size of the wheel doesn't necessarily matter, it is the width of the tire

If you're going to drop the dough on a 98 spec R swap, they why don't you just get some alloy's? Even some OEM one's will do.

a wider tire doesn't have a bigger contact patch. why would a wider tire give him more traction?

edit: in a straight line that is

Sup. Dude.. First nice Swap... Second Do what most ppl do.... Bu some 14" steels w/ falkin azenis. The are a sticky tire.. Don't ream it too hard cuz the tire is soft and don't last too long... also. make sure you have a god aliment and good camber cuz they will eat those tires up and only last like 3500 miles.. good luck and keep banging gears
