Can someone tell me about the SRS light on the dash?
I have a '97 Civic EX, the SRS light on the control panel near the odometer is lit up. Could someone please tell me what would cause it to come on?
Does the SRS have anything to do with the airbag?

SRS = Supplemental Restraint System
It is supposed to supplement your seat belt, aka airbags...
The SRS light can go on for many reason, including but not limited to:
Loose connector in the SRS system. A faulty or discharged airbag. Bad SRS controller. If you don't know what your doing, or if you don't have a Factory Service Manual from Honda, I wouldn't **** with it. Take it to the dealer. Or open up the bottom of the steering wheel (there will be a little cover) disconnect the yellow connector and install the red short connector that is in there. (This will keep the drivers airbag from deploying at all) Then pull the gauges and remove the bulb. (So no one will know there is an SRS problem)

My problem was the cable reel in the steering wheel
Check to see if your horn works....that will let you know if its the reel
If the horn works it could be any of the problems HondaFanatic708 listed above

But if you EVER disconnect an airbag for any reason make sure to install the red short connector. Without it the airbag may deploy causing accidental death or serious injury. If you install the red clip in a fully functional SRS system the light will stay on, thats why I said pull the bulb cause that **** can be annoying. It could be other issues as well, Thanks for the props man...
