This has been happening with my compressor. If i drive the car with the ac on it feels like i'm putting my foot on and off the gas every 2 seconds. As far as i can tell the ac fan never turns off, and as you can see the radiator fan doesn't turn on together with it. So i came with these conclusion and i would like someone to correct me if I'm wrong.

*The compressor cluth is bad there for locking up and making these annoying rpm changes
*The AC thermo switch, which is inside the evaporator is faulty, which can turn the ac on an off.
*The High pressure side switch can make the compressor shutdown ? therefore locking up the ac.

The high side is extremely hot, unbearable.
The low side is cold and little wet, no ice forming.
The ac overall is cold.
Please help ... Florida's sun is killing me

What year Civic?

Hook up a manifold gauge set to find out whether the system is overfilled with refrigerant.

get a set of gauges for an a/c system. low side should be about 30 psi, and the high side should be about ambient temperature plus 100. so if its 80 degrees outside it should be about 180 psi. this is while the system is running. when the car is off you should see PSI readings the same as the ambient temp. if its higher its overcharged, if its lower its undercharged.

Manifold gauges hook to both the high and low sides at the same time. On a not too hot and not too cool day in the shade, the low side should read 22-36 PSI and the high side should read 220-295 PSI with the engine idling at spec.

high side should not be that high. not even close if the system is operating properly. if its extremely high on the high and extremely low on the low side there is a clog in the system or the TXV is not working properly.

My numbers are taken directly from the Haynes Techbook on Automotive Heating and Air Conditioning:

(80F ambient temperature)
